Magee Lions vs Caledonia Kermodes
Magee Lions Preview
The Magee Lions secured the 5th and final Lower Mainland berth to the Provincials with a hard fought OT win over Burnaby South. To start the season, there was a lot of talk about this team and they really turned it on down the stretch for the playoffs. A couple of close losses to Kitsilano during league play, and solid wins over Burnett and Hugh Boyd and the clincher over Burnaby South at the Lower Mainlands propelled the Lions to their first Provincial Tournament appearance in more than a couple of decades. Not since the days of Joey Haywood (aka King Handles) has there been any hype about Magee basketball. The primary reason for the Lions success so far this season has been because of their height in 6'5" Hunter Jordan, 6'5" Jacky Liu and 6'6" Kyle Satorius. Jordan is the team's star player and has had some huge games this year scoring 30+ points in several games. Jordan is a very versatile player, he can play almost any position on the floor. His favorite move is the turnaround jumper from the high post. He was featured in the Province recently. Defensively, the Lions are a little soft. They have height but lack toughness inside. However, they use their height and length very well to protect the passing lanes and challenge shots.
Players to Watch for: Hunter Jordan, Aaron Mah, Kyle Satorius, Jacky Liu
Outlook: Caledonia shouldn't be a problem. Handsworth will more than a handful. They could have a chance in the Consolation but will have to beat some very good teams.
Caledonia Kermodes Preview
Another team that is not very well known. They hosted the Kermode Classic way back in Dec which they lost to AA Prince Rupert. They along with Mt Baker will battle for the last few spots (at Notre Dame and not the Agrodome as someone has pointed out). The Kermodes really have no chance against Magee in the first round.
Players to Watch for: Unknown, please post if you know.
Outlook: In tough vs Magee, may have a chance vs Mt Baker in the consolation bracket.
