AAA Power Rankings Week 3

Last Updated Dec 18, 2005

Big news of the week was Centennial's blowout win over St. George's in their own tournament. Should be pretty idle until after the New Year when things will start to pick up.

Will update this on a weekly basis, most likely every Sun. Think your team should be higher, or included in the Power Rankings?? Send me an take at BCSportsFanatic@yahoo.ca

01. Centennial Centaurs (3)
Win over St. George's this weekend in the St. George's tournament proves they know how to bounce back from a tough loss at HSBC. The Centaurs are playing more games than anyone out there right now, will it wear them out for Provincials?? Or will they be battle-tested?? They will be in the MEI tournament next weekend. Samra completes this team, they have the deepest, most experienced lineup than any other team out there.

02. Saint George's Saints (1)
Saints having to play Centennial in the final game without McKay. Would it have made a difference?? Possibly. Loss to Centennial shows the depth drops significantly past Kong, Murphy, and McKay. Saints probably have an exhibition tournament travelling somewhere during Christmas, we'll see them back in action in Jan.

03. Handsworth Royals (2)
No action this week, Mt Rainer exhibition game didn't happen. Probably on a travelling tournament during Christmas, won't see them in action again until next year.

04. Kitsilano Blue Demons (4)
The Blue Demons beat WRCA in an exhibition. Idle until after the new year. Nurse and Cochrane are the best 1-2 guard combo in the Province.

05. Brookswood Bobcats (5)
League play started with what should be wins over Walnut Grove and Yale. Will play next weekend at the MEI tournament.

06. Claremont Spartans (6)
Won the Cowichan tournament last weekend beating Dover, Oak Bay, and and Belmont. Janzen and Casey starting to get into the flow of things.

07. Dover Bay Dolphins (7)
Lost in 2OT to Claremont last weekend at the Cowichan Tournament. With wins over Brookswood, they could be a top 5 team by season's end, depends on if they can get over that hump.

08. Maple Ridge Ramblers (8)
Awaiting results of the Mouat Tournament, guessing here that they won it. Not sure about next week's action, probably won't see them until the New Year.

09. GP Vanier Towhees (13)
Won their league games easily then beat everyone at the New West tournament this weekend. California dreaming for Christmas. Looking to battle for that 3rd and final Provincial berth come playoff time.

10. Oak Bay Bays (14)
Lost in the finals of the Cowichan tournament last weekend to Claremont by 6, beat Belmont and Ladysmith to get there. Probably beat Nanaimo in league play, then played in the round-robin Lambrick Park tournament, still awaiting results, played Ladysmith, Dover, and Lambrick.

11. Gleneagle Talons (NR)
Wow, wins their own tournament by beating Carson in the final game. The Talons are aggressive and run the floor better than anyone. Could crack top 10 soon.

12. Pinetree Timberwolves (15)
Continues to play well, won their league games easily. Lost in the Gleneagle tournament, not sure to who though.

13. Carson Graham Eagles (09)
Took in a game to see the next "Yao Ming". Chang is skilled, but needs to bulk up a lot and build up more endurance. The Eagles lost to Gleneagle in the final of the Gleneagle tournament. The Eagles have size but lack speed and toughness.

14. Killarney Cougars (11)
Continues to drop in the rankings. May not even be the best team in Vancouver, Churchill and Magee could give them a run for their money. Loses to Vanier at the New West tournament but beats Port Moody.

15. Pitt Meadows Marauders (12)
Not sure of any game action this week or next week for the Marauders. Maybe rest and practice are what they need to climb back into the top 5 of the FV. Sorry, right now Gleneagle and Pinetree are better.

HM: Belmont, WRCA, Wellington, Port Moody, Terry Fox, Kelowna, North Delta
Belmont is a good team and will hover around top 15 and HM, could make some noise come playoff time, can play with anyone. WRCA lost an exhibition game to Kitsilano. Port Moody playing a lot of games, losing to New West. Fox has an exhibition game vs North Delta, a win for either could resurrect their rankings. Kelowna winning the Chilliwack tournament last weekend, probably win the Penticton tournament this weekend.
