Day 3 Recap

Round 3 recap on DRIVE

Since Blogger was down most of last night, posting my comments this morning. The Elite Eight has some sweet matchups. 2 games were close, meanwhile the other 2 were mostly routs. Let's roll...

Brookswood Bobcats vs Pitt Meadows Marauders

Awesome game, both teams went back and forth. Pitt lead by 5 with about 1:30 left in the game. Bath was dominant down the stretch scoring all of the Bobcats buckets including the 2 clutch free throws for the win.

Pitt is the best coached team in BC, with WRC a close second. Gatner is a fantastic point guard, one of the most underrated for sure. I'd say he's the "smartest" player in the province. He doesn't have quicks like a Jeff Cummings, or the shooting range like Ty Nurse, but he makes good decisions and almost never turns the ball over. Pelton has played consistently every time I've seen him. He uses what he has and has been taught very well. Not very athletic at all, but gets the easy baskets down low. Defensively, he's a good shot blocker and rebounder.

The scary thing about Malish is that as good as he is now, he has the potential to be even better. It looks like he's playing 80% most of the time, going to 100% when he wants to. He's got a good shot for big man and can play suffocating D when he wants to. Bath is a hustle player, plays a lot bigger than his size. Didn't see anything else from anyone, Bobcats are pretty much a 2 man team.

Kitsilano Blue Demons vs Maple Ridge Ramblers

Kits raced to a 14-0 run to start the game and turned the lights off shortly after. Ridge was no match for the Kits guards, the Ridge guards had the deer in the headlights look. Nurse was the star of the show this time. He's got such a smooth stroke and finish, everything is so effortless, and he picked up 7 steals along the way as well.

I've got big issues with Jared Casey's game of Ridge. He shoots jumpers every time. He may be more talented than a Gary Pelton say, but at least Pelton uses his height to get easy baskets and doesn't shoot nearly as many mid-range jumpers. I mean, he's 6'9 for christ sake, drop step and finish strong off the glass. Casey's gonna have to work his butt of when he gets to USF. Do you see guys like Sheldon Williams, Tyler Hansbrough, or Josh Boone settle for turnaround jumpers?? You gotta finish strong son, throw that rock down!!

Handsworth Royals vs Pinetree Timberwolves

Game was a lot closer than the score indicated. Braich turned in some kind of performance for those that weren't there. The guy is simply a machine, it was basically Braich vs 5 Royals with one of them being 7 foot Sacre. He was twisting and bending his body every which way on his drives avoiding Sacre's reach. And he hit several longer than NBA 3s. Sacre for the Royals was dominant down low, but his 20+ points weren't nearly as impressive as the Timberwolves didn't have a capable defender on him.

St. George's Saints vs WRCA Warriors

Man, the younguns hung in tough, played their hearts out. Saints were far too good though. Bol Kong was amazing once again. When he can elevate 4 feet in the air and nail the mid-range jumper, he's pretty much unstoppable. Alex Murphy had another sub-par game, he's getting a little too cute with his passes, stick with the easy pass Murph.

What I really liked about the Warriors was that with 5 min left in the game, down 20+ points, they continued to play hard, just as if the game was tied. Most teams would've packed it in, but they competed for the whole 40 minutes. But that's a Scott Allen team, he wouldn't have it any other way, they take pride in how hard they work.
