Day 5 Recap

Round 5 recap on DRIVE

Handsworth Royals vs Kitsilano Blue Demons

Well, the game wasn't nearly as exciting as it could've been. As I've said before, if you're a 3 point shooting team, a bad streak in a one and done tournament can end you. For Kitsilano, their bad streak would come 1 day too early. The Royals were hot early as Leigh, Lee, Keast could not miss early on. The Blue Demons made a run in the 3rd quarter, but their shooting would let them down everytime they tried to close the gap to single digits.

Scott Leigh is going to be a good addition to U of Alberta. They graduate a lot of their top players, so he should be the backup PG, working up to the starter possibly at the end of the season. Quinn Keast is a solid 2-way player, underrated and will be a good addition to any college team, could be CIS but doesn't have the exposure. Sacre was dominant again. But to bring his game to the next level, he has to improve his footwork, especially with his back against the basket. Needs to develop a baby hook, or spin, etc... Royals will be even more dominant next year. If you thought this year was a weak year for talent, next year is even thinner. I predict an undefeated season for the Royals en route to back-to-back Titles.

Kits really struggled shooting. Which is really unfortunate because if they made a few more shots at key times, the game would've changed completely, but they went cold at just the wrong time. Niko is still one of the top PGs in the Province despite a bad game here, he should be able to play for a CIS team, maybe a Trinity Western or the new UCFV. Paul Woodham is a strong player that should be a decent addition to a juco like Capilano or Langara. Ty Nurse played OK, still needs to mature. Case in point, after making a nice 3 pointer off of a screen, he came back down and forced an NBA 3 pointer over a taller defender resulting in an airball. He will be awesome in years to come though, was their best player today. With Niko and Woodham gone, Kits won't be nearly as strong as last year. They lack a strong post player for next year, but with a weaker field overall, could still be a top 15 team.
