Who's Gonna Win

St. George's Saints are the defacto favorites. They've beaten all the top teams before and have the best (or 2nd best depends on your criteria) player in the Tournament in Bol Kong. It won't be easy though, the road will have to go through both Handsworth and Kitsilano to get there. If they win it though, the Tournament will have some of the best games we've seen in recent memory.

Who Could Win But Won't

Obviously Handsworth and Kitsilano are the next contenders. It's not that far a stretch to pick either the winner. We're talking about the possible Cinderella's.

Although, slumping heading in, Centennial is intruiging simply because they've beaten most of the top teams at one point or another.

Oak Bay is a dark horse. They are very good. They haven't played enough of the top teams to be proven, but the near win over Handsworth is enough to show they got game.

Then there are the one man teams, Pinetree, GP Vanier, and Brookswood. Can their superstars carry them through?? Maybe, they'd have to beat at least 2 of the top 4 to win it all. Hey, anything can happen.

Which Games to Catch

So you're a huge basketball fan and you've stumbled across this site and have started reading about all the teams, players, and want to catch some action this week but don't know which games to catch. No worry, BCSportsFanatic has that covered,

Tue Round 1: Kelowna vs Centennial. Kelowna has a slight chance of an upset, especially the way Centennial has played lately.

Wed Round 2: Maple Ridge vs Cowichan, Vanier vs WRCA. All teams are quite evenly matched which should make for some exciting action. Centennial vs Kitsilano could be exciting should Centennial get their mojo back.

Thu Quarterfinals (projected): Oak Bay vs Brookswood. Should be a very high scoring, uptempo game. Pinetree vs Handsworth might produce an upset. In consolation, Gleneagle vs WRCA and Churchill vs Magee could be really exciting as well.

Fri Semifinals (projected): Handsworth vs St. Georges. Wow, this is gonna be an intense game. They're talking about this one already. Oak Bay vs Kitsilano, Kitsilano is favored by quite a bit right now, I would put it at a -4 point spread if I were handicapping it.

Sat Finals (projected): Kitsilano vs St. Georges. A rematch of the LM Championships. If the game has the same tempo as that one, we are in for a treat. Being as both are from Vancouver, the Agrodome will be ready to explode. Hope the Canucks game vs Dallas at GM Place won't affect attendance.

forgot the 3/4 game. Take Handsworth.

Also, screwed up the 17-20 place consolation draw as there are 2 more games played. Bottom line, Kelowna should finish 17, Cal, Kelly, Baker all behind that.

hey sportsfanatic, that was a bad call to put that oaf woodham as a player to watch. why didn't u put murphy instead, or aswell? he's way better, and there are no guards on yer list. murphy was selected as one of the top 20 PLAYERS in canada and is going to the ACG in april, woodham isn't because he's not as good a player. you should edit woodham out of that preview and slot in murphy to make yer article more credible and accurate.

Vanier over WRCA ?? I doubt it. I can also see Allen totally outcoaching Lee in the Quarter Finals and winning; just because of the great defense that WRCA has, they will therefore not need to score that many points; which will be very hard agianst a taller and quicker Saints team.

Also wouldn't surprise me if you see Cent making a hard push for the Ship (make the Wellington of this year??). But I do like Oak Bay, they seem to be playing their best ball right now and beating good/great teams while they are at it.

With that said I will find it hard for Kits be beat both Cent. and Ridge/Cowichan. I think anything can happen in a bo1 matchup as highlighted by last year's Wellington squad. But from your comments it seems like Kits is playing like a team and getting support from unusual suspects, which is always dangerous.

I also disagree with, what seems to be the mass consensus, that Handsworth and St. George's is the de-facto final. That is if they even get to play each other in the Semis. I agree, unequivicially, with the tournament organizers with the layout of the draw. It should make for an interesting Provincial Tournament.

PS: Site Manager,
Where you at the 2005 BC Provincials? If so I have some quesitons ...

if saints plays wrca on thursday, which they prolly won't, they will roll over them. wrca's players don't ahve the experience or the skill to beat saints. also the thing saints prides themselves on is their hard nosed defence. no one on wrca will stop bol, saints has 3 players that have been to provincials 3 times, so scott allen won't be able to overcome the saints this year.
Kits will easily make the semifinals, they are the deepest team in the province and are on fire right now.

I agree with poster, two posts above mine, that there are favourites. But how can anyone be 'sure' that this team could/will be that team. There is too much variance in high school ball (or almost any level for that matter) to be sure about anything. I am not saying that the Saints aren't favoured, or that Kits won't make semis. Just that it wouldn't surprise me if the complement was true. There are a torrent of good teams in the Province and taking a Football (American that is) expression, anything can happen on any given Sunday. Although they aren't playing on Sunday, I believe that anything can happen in a bo1 series. Just look at last year, Argyle was favoured to win it all (by me too!). But they didn't even place! Who can say that that won't happen to any of the 'favourites' this year? Maybe a flu bug will hit a team at a bad time, or someone will get injured, or someone's gf will break up with him. As funny as the last one sound, these physical and psychological manifestations can have huge repercussions on the outcomes of bo1 40 min game.
