2005 AAA Fraser Valley Preview

Update, due to the multiple requests to update, I've made the adjustments to reflect the re-alignment of the divisions.

The Fraser Valley has always been an extremely competitive zone in BC High School Hoops. Plenty of good programs to go around. With only 6-7 berths to the Provincial Championships, only the best will make it to the Big Dance.

Fraser Valley Central

Projected Finish:

1. Enver Creek Cougars (Surrey)
2. Princess Margaret Lions (Surrey)
3. Fleetwood Park Dragons (Surrey)
4. Queen Elizabeth Royals (Surrey)
5. Guilford Park Sabres (Surrey)
6. North Surrey Spartans (Surrey)
7. Fraser Heights Firehawks (Surrey)
8. Clayton Heights Night Riders (Surrey)
9. Johnston Heights Eagles (Surrey)
10. Kwantlen Park (Surrey)
11. LA Matheson (Surrey)

With the move of Brookswood to the Fraser Valley East, the Central will be significantly weaker. Enver Creek should win out the division, but even the Cougars will be weaker than year's past with the loss of Paul Samra a significant factor. I do not predict any provincial berths from the Central Division.

Fraser Valley East

Projected Finish:

1. Brookswood Bobcats (Langley)
2. MEI Eagles (Abbotsford)
3. WJ Mouat Hawks (Abbotsford)
4. Rick Hansen Hurricanes (Abbotsford)

5. Walnut Grove (Langley)
6. Yale Lions (Abbotsford)
7. Robert Bateman Timberwolves (Abbotsford)
8. Chilliwack Storm (Chilliwack)
9. Sardis Falcons (Sardis)
10. Abbotsford Panthers (Abbotsford)

Obviously, the favorite here is Brookswood. You could make a pretty good argument that Brent Malish is the best forward in all of BC. He's played on the Provincial teams for the last few years and has been to the Provincial Tournament before. Add Graham Bath and the Bobcats have one of the top frontcourts in all of BC Hoops. The rest of the East is significantly weaker this year than years past. A lot talented Seniors last year have graduated including Rick Hansen's Jake Doerksen among others. MEI has a skilled team and returns the most talent in Jesse Smith, Jon Loewen and Karl Toews. Besides Brookswood and MEI, don't expect any other Provincial berths from the East.

Fraser Valley North

Projected Finish:
1. Centennial (Coquitlam)
2. Pitt Meadows (Pitt Meadows)

3. Terry Fox Ravens (Port Coquitlam)
4. Port Moody Blues (Port Moody)
5. Maple Ridge Ramblers (Maple Ridge)
6. Pinetree Timberwolves (Coquitlam)
7. Garibaldi Rebels (Maple Ridge)
8. Gleneagle Talons (Coquitlam)
9. Westview Wildcats (Maple Ridge)
10. Dr. Charles Best Blue Devils (Coquitlam)
11. Riverside Rapids (Port Coquitlam)

The North Division will be the most competitive of all the divisions within the Fraser Valley. Centennial is the obvious favorite with the returning starters from last year's team that went to Provincials. Pitt has Gary Pelton, Dylan Gatner and Zach Udot, Provincial player Doug Plumb has apparently gone back to Minnesota. Terry Fox has top point guard Ryan Murray to lead the team. Expected Provincial berths are Centennial, Pitt Meadows and Terry Fox. Watch out for Port Moody, and Maple Ridge, could sneak in back door.

Fraser Valley West

Projected Finish:
1. WRCA Warriors (White Rock)
2. North Delta Huskies (Delta)
3. Tamanawis Wildcats (Surrey)
4. Seaquam Seahawks (Delta)
5. Earl Marriott Mariners (Surrey)
6. Delta Pacers (Delta)
7. Sullivan Heights Stars (Surrey)
8. Semiahmoo Totems (Surrey)
9. South Delta Sun Devils (Delta)
10. Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers (Surrey)
11. Frank Hurt Hornets (Surrey)
12. Elgin Park Orcas (Surrey)

The West is more of a football division than basketball. The defending champion WRCA Warriors are expected to top the division, but a Provincial berth is not guaranteed. The Warriors graduated their top Seniors last year and will be fielding a team with plenty of talent but short on Varsity experience. North Delta was ranked in the Province rankings at the end of last year, we'll wait to see if they live up to expectations. Tamanawis, Seaquam, and Earl Marriott have some young talent and could surprise. WRCA and/or North Delta could earn a berth into the Provincial tournament.

Projected Provincial berths: Brookswood, Fox, Pitt, Centennial, MEI, North Delta, WRCA

ur tellin me that not one burnaby or new west team is in there?

At 5:47 PM, October 10, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

burnaby central 2 years ago...(junior team/same team) made provincials and stomped 90% of these teams...now adding devon to the roster, central will be a great basketball team in BC

We're talking about the Fraser Valley Zone. Last time I checked, both Central and New West were in the Lower Mainland Zone which I'll be previewing in a later week...

loooser.. buddy Central is doubtful to make the BC's.. BBY/NEW WEST league will suck

Brookswood and Grove have moved to valeey east for this year.

I've heard rumors about the change, is it confirmed??

Hmm, so is there another Surrey team that takes their place in Central??

Yah It Has Been Confirmed

At 3:32 PM, October 11, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

i hear HighRoad moved down from AAA..because of some coaching problems

At 12:05 PM, October 12, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Brookswood and Walnut Grove are in the East. Cent's coach (through Elvis) confirmed it on Hooplife.ca. Highroad is moving down to Single A because they don't have a coach. Hansen also lost their coach so I am REALLY confused how you could rank them 3rd. They have no one. How could you rank Abby below Sardis? Sardis and Chilliwack are brutal and will always be unless their basketball programs change. I would rank Yale above Mouat because Mouat has only one 'good' returning senior and he is not even a scoring option. Their grade tens were weak (Ricky Dahliwal :(). The have some really good grade 9's though. Yale has probably the best player in the East in Sheldon and they should take 2nd (but now 3rd or 4th because of Brookswood/Grove).

At 1:14 PM, October 12, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I HEard Sheldon is at Brookswood for sure now?

At 5:35 PM, October 12, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Not 100% sure; but since the Yale coaches were reinstated (or w/e) I am pretty sure that he is back at Yale. I know that he played summer league with Brookswood. btw: Tyler Anderson is in Korea so he won't play next year for Yale (if you didn't know). MEI has a new coach: Arnie Dick. We will see how stuff develops. I personally think you are under-ranking Fleetwood, to my knowledge they had 3 grade 10's playing Sr. last year. Atiwal (one of the grade 10's) is very good. I would expect them to have some very close games with Enver for the league title.

I think the central divison is way different because Brookswood and Grove left..i think Enver will take one, Fleetwood is an awesome team, Ravi and Harmeet have played together in senior since grade 9, Kp will take three with big Eric from the BC team, and PM will round out the top 4..This group is very weak after top 2....in east, Brookswood will go one, followed by Grove, then either Mouat,Abby,or Chillwack....Other groups look fine, teams that will surprise is Pinetree,Tamanawis, and Elgin...good teams with good coaching and guards...let teh season beginn plzzz

At 11:30 PM, October 19, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Damn alot of new coaches in the East. Hansen,Mei, and Abby all got new coaches. Prentice Lens is coaching Abby now.

Abby=underrated

If you could do a little preview of each team, that would be freakin awesome.

Though I bet you don't have the time to do all that. If you do though, that would be awesome.

At 7:10 PM, October 20, 2005, Blogger BCSportsFanatic said...

I would like to do a preview of each team. Just need to gather the info. Problem is getting the info from the coaches, some have changed, contact info not available, etc...

At 7:59 PM, October 21, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Fraser Valley West is the deepest division. White Rock, North Delta are two strong teams and the rest of the division is deep. North Delta will take the division. Too much size and they will have good guard play.

At 4:16 PM, October 22, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

considering.. for sure 3 teams in the North are better Pitt, Fox , Cent , im sure Glen and RIdge could make a close game..

At 1:59 PM, October 24, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I'd like to see your new preview of the Central Division now that we know Brookswood and Walnut Grove are not in the running.

At 8:03 PM, October 27, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

your a joker to thing that the west is the deepest division cent pitt fox gleneagle and ridge and moddy could whip ND's two sorry post players

At 1:34 PM, October 28, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

The North is definately the strongest. Fanatic are you going to update the Central and East?

At 9:15 PM, November 02, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Port Moody is gonna be very bad. The FVN has Centennial, Pitt, Fox, Gleneagle, Maple Ridge and Pinetree as its top teams in that order and that is easily the deepest division in the valley.

At 11:43 PM, November 03, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Bc Sports Fanatic go on hooplife and read the New Fraser Valley

how do u think this will change who gets to go to the Frasers and play for a chance at a Provincial Berth

I wont to know where Aldergrove comunity secondary school is goin to be rated

At 9:32 PM, November 06, 2005, Blogger BCSportsFanatic said...

I think Aldergrove is going to be AA this year.

The new playoff format for FV will be good for the North. It is good and bad in some ways because the bracket is determined subjectively by a "selection committee" as opposed to top 4 from each division.

At 7:53 PM, November 09, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Tamanawis is gonna kick ass!!!!!!!!Theo Clearsky What!!!!

At 8:28 PM, November 17, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Gleneagle has an amazing team this year, they should be ranked atleast 4th in the North. As well as Pinetree, who have solid Srs. With Tyler being the leader this year, instead of Anetan.

And there is no way the west is that strong at all this year. Except for WRCA.

Moody wont be as bad as people think. As I say in Spring they have 4 or 5 big men that can all play. They will compete, but shouldn't be as high as you have ranked them.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if the North sent 4-5 teams to the provincals.

At 4:42 PM, November 21, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Tamanawis will beat WRCA.

At 12:39 PM, November 22, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

guildford park beat enver creek already this year in an exibition game by 15 points...why r they so far back in the rankings??

At 12:30 PM, November 26, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Don't sleep on the Chilliwack Storm! They have a lot of up and coming Gr11ers and Eric Thiessen is a top PG. They have a shot at provincials

At 9:36 PM, November 26, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Chillwack storms sr boys basketball team will be in prvinvials next year led by Adam Pluhowy(gr.11) and Rick Doldersum(gr.11) that will be the unstoppable 2

At 9:37 PM, November 26, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Ya betta move Chilliwack Storm boys up to atleast top 4 this year. JUST WATCH

At 12:20 PM, December 03, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

just so everyone knows mouat lost to sardis and u have sardis rated 9th and mouat rated 3rd and sardis also beat abby so did chilliwack so they deserve to be rated last

At 12:44 PM, December 03, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I am thinking that Mouat is a little over rated, i meen they lost to sardis by 10 points in the finals of their tournament, and you have them ranked 3rd and Sardis ranked 9th. Also Chilliwack only lost to them by 9 points.
So i am thinking that the Sardis Falcons are going to make some noise this year, and dont be surprised if they upset a few teams.

1. Brookswood Bobcats (Langley)

6. Walnut Grove (Langley)
7. WJ Mouat Hawks (Abbotsford)

i believe that the east is the hardest division to guess on how it all will turn out. many teams will improve through the season such as bateman and abby and many others. mei will fight for first with having a strong junior team last year and all. yale also with their guards sheldon and paul.
abby has a young team and a new coach but work hard so we will see..here is my guess.
1. brookswood
2. m.e.i
3. yale
4. abby
5. bateman
6. chilliwack
7. mouat
8. sardis
9. walnut grove
10. hansen

chillwack's eric thiessen is over rated

At 8:21 PM, December 05, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Chilliwack is depending too much on Eric Thiessen, ive had a chance to play against him with his so called "mad handles" and he sucks, he loses the ball everytime he goes to the basket.
I will give Dave Isbister props for getting 17 points in the final game, in the Sardis tournament but when you get down to business he can't handle the pressure, and chokes.
Adam Pluhowy has a nice 3-point shot, but he has no sense for the game, he makes a lot of stupid mistakes
If they are already losing to teams like Mouat, how do they expect to play against the better teams like Brookswood and MEI....

At 8:21 PM, December 05, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Andrew Poirer and Ace Manuel are both very talented basketball players

At 5:26 PM, December 07, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

In the East There is two good teams MEI and Brookswood. All the other teams will have to fight for position. Chilliwack lost their best forward due to two lung clapses and most Sardis players have an attitude issue so it will be a fight against themselfs. I havn't seen the other teams to know for sure but Abby Sr sucks.

At 5:33 PM, December 07, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yale does have two good guards but no low post presence. Any team that can beat them on the boards and contain their guards will beat them. Mouat has a good coach but not a very skillful team and they arn't as big as normal. Bateman will be good with their volleyball team. There whole team is jump shooters so they will have off games.

At 10:28 PM, December 10, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

sardisn has attitude issuses news to me whos the problem gte hoim kicked off the team then

At 10:19 PM, December 12, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

haha eric Tiessen, man your soo full of yourself, you think your the best guard in BC and one of the best shooters, well you got a long ways to go.

At 8:38 PM, December 19, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

haha why would i feel threatned by you Eric. ur a scronny little kid, who is to scared to drive to the basket. And ur not even close to being the best guard in chilliwack either, i'd give Tanner the ball before you....

At 9:16 PM, December 19, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

It Doesnt Matter.. id expect 6 teams to make it the valleys from the north n 6 of them all have shots at the bcs .. 7 n 8 coould make it over most other teams in the valley

well David Popov, Elijah, and his little brother from Highroad Academy are all better than you. and then there are a few from sardis that are better than you.

Dude lay off eric, especially if the guy trash talking him is from chilliwack. He may not be a point god but he can play for sure. Good luck at CBC. As for th storm, we are working on conditioning, shooting, and most improtantly cosnsitency. This will be a team carrying seven seniors who all work extreemly hard and look to leave HS the right way. Watch for gordie atti and myself, were gonna wreck shop down here in cornland.

Sardis is going to show Chilliwack Senior how its done.... We have 6 seniors... 3 of us have been playing together since gr.5 and the rest of us have been together since gr.7!! I believe that Sardis is going to have one of the best shooting teams in the league this year with the unbelievable shooting from all of our seniors. I guess if Chilliwack wants to prove Sardis wrong, they will actually have to win some games at our tournament at the end of November and play us in the finals...I honestly believe that our team will be able to go far into the fraser valleys... and i wish the best of luck to all of the teams in the league.
