Do You Believe in the Hype??

He's 6'11, 16 years old, wingspan of a 747, and genes that would make the Sports Gods jealous.

Rob Sacre is the most highly touted, highly scouted BC basketball player since Kyle Wilson was dribbling and shooting his way into BC Hoops lore. And who wouldn't blame them (the scouts that is), he's got so much upside that he's got most schools feeding from the hand. There have even been some reports that teams in the NBA have shown interest to draft him straight out of High School.

Rob's currently playing for the BC U17 Provincial team at this years Canada Summer Games in Regina and no doubt there will be college scouts following his every move. Reports from earlier U17 exhibition games and tournaments indicate that Rob has been anything but the dominating force that is expected of him. Clearly a good showing at the Canada Summer Games will go a long way to solidifying his D1 potential. Ah yes, the dreaded 'P' word.

Back at home, Rob will be entering another season at Handsworth Secondary's Senior Team in the fall/winter. Handsworth has had to battle division powerhouse rival Argyle the past few seasons for top dog. With Argyle graduating most of their Seniors, all eyes have shifted to Handsworth as the team to beat. And Rob will be counted on to lead his troops to the promise land, anything less and those D1 offers will disappear faster than you can blink. Yes, Rob has potential, but all the greats had potential and turned them into Championship Seasons, and MVPs. That's a lot of pressure for a 16 year old, but tell that to the Steve Nashes or the Pasha Bainses or the Tyrell Maras.

As I was reading the article in the Province yesterday written by a reporter from Regina, I asked myself "Do You Believe in the Hype??". I hope so, for Rob's sake, for BC's sake. Hell, I'd love to see the next NBA Star come from the 604 as much as the next guy, but he's gonna have to show us why he deserves to be there. Show us Rob, show us what you can do what that round orange ball, make us believe.

From what I've seen the kid has alot to work on. I saw him play against Mara's WRCA in the Provincials and they did a great job defending him. He has a hard time keeping the ball and even putting it off the backboard from 2 feet away. The only reason he's highly scouted is b/c he already has a solid body and he's on the verge of 7 feet if not already.

Should be working his ass off this offseason if he wants to help Quinn and Keast make it to the finals.

Rob is not very good right now for his size. You would think he'd be dunking on every1 like it's nothing.
The thing is about big guys like rob tho is that it takes them awhile to grow into their feet properly. By the time he's 23 years old, you'll see what all this hype is about. I'm sure Gonzaga knows right now that he's not that great, but by the time he's 23 he'll be unstoppable
